When you’re planning a new shed, one of the first things you’ll want to know is how long it will take to build. While every project is different, there are some reliable benchmarks that can help you map out your timeline.

Basic, Open-Sided Sheds

A simple 3-bay, 3-sided lean-to with an earth floor (up to 100 m²) typically takes 3 to 5 days to complete. If you’re adding more bays, allow an extra day or two per bay. These timeframes apply to straightforward builds with minimal extras.

Enclosed Bays and Roller Doors

Once you start enclosing bays, the schedule naturally gets longer. A build with one enclosed bay, including a concrete floor, roller door, and PA door, usually takes 6 to 8 days. Each additional enclosed bay adds roughly 1 to 2 more days, depending on your fit-out. Enclosed areas require more structural work, additional hardware, and finer finishing details — all of which extend the build time.

Clearspan Designs and Taller Structures

Clearspan sheds often take longer due to the use of heavier beams and more complex engineering. Height also matters; anything over 4 metres generally adds extra time, as the crew needs taller equipment, additional bracing, and stricter safety steps. Custom features like windows, extra doors, or specialised cladding will also lengthen the build.

How to Keep Your Build on Track

To ensure the process runs smoothly, it is best to lock in your specifications early and keep changes to a minimum. A prepared site also helps — good access, cleared ground, and confirmed measurements make a significant difference and help avoid unnecessary delays.

Every Shed is Unique

The rule of thumb is simple: the more features you add, the longer the build time will be. With clear decisions and a site that’s ready to go, you can keep the project moving and get your shed up faster — without compromising on quality.
